The Road Ahead

Hi everyone, and happy (be-lated) 2016!  The end of 2015 and the start of this new year have been a whirlwind for us with the addition of baby Finley to the crew on Nov. 29th.  As has been gone to in great detail around the web, being a parent is at times trying, exhausting, rewarding, blissful, and overall awesome.  It’s hard to explain, but you just don’t realize till it’s you how much you can love one tiny human.

As if having a newborn wasn’t enough, we have also launched an apparel/lifestyle brand with a focus on cruising sailors and all of us who love messing about in boats.  If you haven’t seen the announcement over on our Facebook page, our brand is Boat Bum.  We are very excited and proud of our new venture.  We’ve been getting some great feedback so far and can’t wait to see where this takes us.

For the past couple of years I’ve thought of our life as “lifestyle entrepreneurship”; from leaving a comfortable, if somewhat boring, life in NY, to moving to the Florida Keys, to taking off from their to go cruising.  It all takes a certain amount of vision and risk which has eventually led us to starting our own business.

That leads us to the topic of this post.  For the foreseeable future we will be based on land as we get Finley up to snuff with this whole being alive thing and get Boat Bum going.  But the dream always has been and continues to be a cruising life.  Seeing how fast the first six weeks of Fin’s life have already gone we are more than ready to get back to the slower pace of boat life and enjoy time afloat discovering the world through a child’s eyes.

It was while we were cruising in the Bahamas that we really thought how cool it would be to have a little one on board.  What a cool life it would be for a kid to have on a boat in the ocean visiting beaches, snorkeling, and having all kinds of adventures.  Following blogs like Windtraveler and SV Necesse only inspire us further.

Our goal to have another boat and be off the dock cruising within three years.  We appreciate all of your support, encouragement, and feedback.  Here we go!

  1. Bill,

Good to hear from you two and now three. I was just thinking about you last week. Where are the pictures of the new crew member? We just heard recently that my wife and I are going to be grandparents for the first time in March. We are excited. Take care and keep your site updated every now and then. Good Luck.
